Wisdom

I Corinthians 3:18-19
[18]Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. [19]For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;

What is Wisdom?
  • Wisdom means the ability to make decisions based on the combination of knowledge, experience, and intuitive understanding.
  • It is the ability to know and apply spiritual truth.
  • It is also an element of personal character that enables one to distinguish the wise from the unwise
"Wisdom is the principal thing;" Proverbs 4:7
In today's lesson the word of God makes us to understand that our wisdom (i.e. the wisdom of this world) is foolishness before Him (God), so let no man deceive you.

Types of Wisdom
  1. Wisdom of God- Example: King Solomon. 1 Kings 3:12; 4:30
  2. Wisdom of the world- Example: The foolish rich man Luke 12:16-20

Who is the Wisdom of God (Wisdom personified)

I Corinthians 1:24
[24]but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

I Corinthians 1:30
[30]But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—

This two verses of the scripture has made it clear unto us that Jesus Christ is the Wisdom of God. Anyone that will possess this wisdom must firstly receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Personal Saviour(i.e must surrender himself/herself to Christ)

How to get this Wisdom of God
  • Give your life to the author of Wisdom
Only Jesus can give you the wisdom which you require because the wisdom of this world amounts to foolishness with God.
  • Ask.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
God is the giver of Wisdom and he is able to give it to you liberally and without reproach. All you that is required of you is to ask and you shall receive for it is written "whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:22

N.B
Jesus is the principal thing you need in life. Surrender yourself unto him and he will lead you through.
